And the journey has begun!

That's it... after a few years of dreaming and over 20 months of planning, the adventure officially began! I arrived in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, to begin my tour around the world.

Yes, I left Montreal this morning.  I took a plane to land in St. John's to officially start my journey.  My friend Gaston came to drop me at the airport and took that photograph under the departures sign...  funny that he also got the Bell phone booth (I worked for Bell for 9 years).

Wait... I took a plane?  Yes, I did.  I do not want to advance though air travel in my journey but there's only one route by ground level to reach St. John's... and I didn't want to make it in both ways to get back to Halifax.  So, I took the place to reach the location of the start of my journey.

I was welcomed with rain in St John's.  I stay on the university campus, in the student residences.  As soon as I settled my luggage in the room, I went out to walk a bit in the city.  I had not taken proper time to plan this first stop... because I was so preoccupied by other aspects of my trip.  I didn't anticipate the city to have so many hills.  I don't mind the hills and the walking, just puts it in a different frame of mind and I'll re-evaluate the distances I'll cover daily.

After I walked in the rain for almost an hour, I stopped at a small restaurant serving fish and chips.  Of course, it was great... so fresh.   I stopped to get some snacks and water on the way back to my room.  Now the rain has stopped.... but I've been wet enough for the day and I'm tired.

I don't know if it's the airplane trip or the excitement of the beginning of the journey of the many hills I've walked up to reach the harbour, but I'm a bit tired tonight.. even if it's not late at all for me.  I'll just relax now and re-work my sightseeing planning.

Every journey begins by a first day... this day is done for me... just 5474 more to do :-)
